Sodium carbonate, also known as soda ash, is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula Na₂CO₃. It appears as white powder or colorless crystals, soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. It has hygroscopicity and easily absorbs moisture in air to form agglomerates. It decomposes at high temperature but is stable at room temperature.
